A Microsoft and Nvidia announced an alliance to build and operate hyper-realistic virtual worlds called Omniverse Cloud and offer artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputing services to enterprises. The partnership will allow integration between programs Microsoft 365 and the Nvidia Omniverse platform to enable real-time 3D collaboration.
Subscriptions for the new offering will be available in the second half of this year. Omniverse technology has proven to be particularly useful for automakers as they employ 3D design tools to accelerate vehicle development, build digital twins of factories, or run simulations to test vehicle performance.
The alliance is a strategy of Nvidia to focus on now-expanding markets for metaverse-enabling software and artificial intelligence that take advantage of its graphics-oriented semiconductors. The partnership with Microsoft it will also allow the company to bring new AI, simulation and collaboration capabilities to the industry. A Microsoft also has a commitment to the industrial metaverse, which was reaffirmed after the company created and fired its industrial metaverse team in February this year.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang told the company's Developer Conference that “the world’s largest companies are racing to digitize every aspect of their business and reinvent themselves into software-defined technology companies,” said the executive. “Nvidia AI and Omniverse power industrial digitalization.”
