The world's first LGBTQ+ museum in virtual reality aims to celebrate the voices and stories of the community around the world. It also marks the pioneering spirit in relation to exhibitions and discussions about art, technology and social protagonism. The first exhibition is scheduled for December 9th in a space in Wales, free of charge. We have selected some videos made available by the exhibition organizers to show what it would be like to dive into this world.
The possibilities behind virtual reality are endless. With the popularization of concepts such as VR, metaverse e Web3.0, the idea is that more and more groups will enter these environments.
The museum's creator, software developer Antonia Forster, decided to open an exhibition focused on the LGBTQ+ public after experiencing unpleasant situations as a member of the community, she says:
The exhibition of works in virtual reality and 3D, in addition to having visual appeal, also features narration by people from the community who were part of the museum's composition.
Everything carries meaning and an intense story behind it: from personal artifacts, like a pair of shoes, to literary works and clothing. Therefore, all works can be viewed interactively, with experience using VR tools. They can even be touched!!
Virtual reality exhibitions can open doors to new ways of consuming the metaverse.
However, to dive into the virtual reality of complex projects, as is the LGBTQ+ museum, More sophisticated instruments are needed, such as VR glasses and headsets. Equipment still inaccessible (costs) for a large part of the population. As an example, the Quest 2 – VR glasses from Meta – costs R$2100 in Brazil.
