The K-pop phenomenon captures fans inside and outside of South Korea, the genre's country of origin. However, despite its immense popularity in the four corners of the world, one of the main leaders of the movement, Soo-Man-Lee, founder of SM Entertainment, whoaria Korean music groups, was on a TV show and said that the metaverse is the future of K-pop.
The K-pop movement, which began in the 1990s, is responsible for a strong market. Every now and then a topic related to the genre is among the most talked about on the internet. Groups like BTS, Twice and BIGBANG make the minds of young people all over the world. In an interview with CNBC television last week (6), Soo-Man-Lee, mastermind behind K-pop hits, said:
“The future is to be the first mover… K-pop has become a genre. It's funny for me to say this, but we know that K-pop is all-encompassing art content, updated based on innovation, so to talk about the future in this scenario, I think the metaverse that everyone is talking about is the future.” , said the executive and music producer.
When asked about what he is doing to take K-pop culture to the metaverse frontiers, he responded by talking about aespa, the first musical group of its kind present in the metaverse:
“We created the SM Culture Universe and are establishing a new metaverse world. SM Entertainment is building “play-to-create” where people can discover their creative side in the metaverse.”
