Jimeng AI: ByteDance enters the video AI race

A ByteDance, Chinese technology giant, launched its own text video generating app, entering an emerging market disputed by OpenAI and other companies.

Since OpenAI, supported by Microsoft, revealed its text-to-video template Sora In February, Chinese companies have been rapidly developing similar tools, with several releasing user-friendly models.

Jimeng AI, developed by ByteDance subsidiary Faceu Technology, is now available on the App Store for Chinese users, following its launch on Android on July 31.

The launch of the text-to-video model by TikTok's parent company follows a series of similar launches in China in recent months. Kuaishou, another major Chinese video platform, opened its model Kling AI to a global audience late last month. Chinese AI startup Zhipu AI also introduced its video generator model, Ying, last month, followed by startup Shengshu with its app Vidu.

Faceu Technology operates under the umbrella of Jianying, known for its CapCut video editing app. Jimeng AI offers subscription plans starting at 69 yuan (about R$50) per month, with different image and video creation limits.
