World basketball icon Shaquille O'Neal, now with his alter ego DJ, aka DJ Diesel, announced his first show in the metaverse. On December 31st, at a party to welcome the new year, the basketball legend will present 'The Shaq-tacular Spectacular' at Meta's Meta Horizon Worlds. The experience, in immersive reality, will also feature appearances by names like Cardi B, Ludacris, Killer Mike, Lil Yachty.
The presentation, based in the Meta metaverse, will also be broadcast on Facebook and Instagram, in O'Neal's own pages. Officially, the party starts on Saturday (31), at 20:30 pm, Brasília time. For enthusiasts of the legend in Brazil, the show can only be followed on social media, as the platform is not yet available here.
Despite the emphasis on the NBA legend, the environment in which the presentations will take place must also feature a skating rink and basketball court, in addition to the main stage. The party will feature a marching band, cheerleaders and even professional skaters along with basketball players and fans. Visitors with virtual reality equipment will be able to interact with the attractions.
In a statement, basketball legend and now DJ Diesel said: “I'm excited to celebrate with some of my favorite artists and athletes in a way that you can enjoy with friends and family in VR around the world...from music, laughter and much more, we celebrate New Year's Eve and welcome 2023 with a spectacular party.”
The party in Meta's environment aims to promote the company's metaverse wishes, taking into account that these presentations entertain the public and use the artists' popularity to attract more people to the platform. Names like Ariain Grande, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg and Justin Bieber have already performed in the metaverse.
