33 million Brazilians go hungry every day

Data from the 2nd National Survey on Food Insecurity in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Brazil show that the country today has around 33 million people without having anything to eat daily.ariamind. It is almost double what was estimated in 2020. The research was carried out by the Brazilian Network for Research in Food and Nutritional Sovereignty and Security (Rede PENSSAN).

A Citizenship Action, founded by sociologist Herbert de Souza, known as Betinho, promoted, between June 20th and 23rd, the National Meeting Against Hunger, to bring together entities that try to guarantee food security for Brazilians. The objective was to find solutions to stop the spread of hunger in Brazil.

Among the national proposals contained in the “Agenda Betinho 2022” are the revocation of the spending ceiling, imposed in 2016, and the resumption of the Bolsa Família Program in its original design, with the immediate inclusion of all people in situations of poverty and extreme poverty . It is also planned to create mechanisms for periodically updating the budget based on inflation. As Betinho said: “Whoever is hungry is in a hurry”.
