“Before providing services to the public that use generative artificial intelligence products, a security assessment must be requested from internet regulatory departments“, states the bill, released by the Cyberspace Administration of China.

The project aims to guarantee the “healthy development and the standardized application of generative AI technology”, she adds.

AI-generated content must “reflect fundamental socialist values and must not contain content related to the subversion of state power”.

It must also not contain “terrorist or extremist propaganda”, “ethnic hatred” or “other content that may disrupt the economic and social order”.

The Cyberspace Administration of China reported that it has opened the draft regulations for public consultation, which, in the country's centralized political system, is practically guaranteed to come into force.

The text was released at a time when several Chinese technology companies, including Alibaba, JD.com, NetEase and ByteDance (TikTok's parent company), are developing their own chatbot model, with the hope of building on the success of the pioneering American service. ChatGPT.

China has already announced ambitious plans to take the lead in the artificial intelligence sector by 2030. McKinsey consultancy calculates that the sector could add almost 600 billion dollars per year to Chinese GDP.
