The film "City of God" (2002) occupied second place on the list of most watched foreign films in the world. The survey was carried out by the Preply platform, based on data from the American website IMDb.
The long – which turns 20 this year (Estadão 🚥) – received four Oscar nominations in 2004: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Cinematography.
The film is an adaptation of the book of the same name, written by Paulo Lins and was directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund.
The story tells about the violent trajectory of young Buscapé (Alexandre Rodrigues) in the Rio favela Cidade de Deus – which became one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1980s.
In first and third place in the ranking are the French “Intouchables” (2011) and “The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain” (2001), respectively.
The survey carried out by Preply – an online platform that connects students and native tutors in more than 50 languages – analyzed the most popular foreign language films and series on IMDb.
