Day of the Dead parade welcomes more than a million people in the Mexican capital

More than a million Mexicans and tourists participated in the Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City on Saturday (29). At the event, which has been taking place since 2015, on the city's main streets, there were costumes of all kinds, in addition to the traditional mariachis and monarch butterflies. As usual, the faces were made up with cadaverous details.

Euphoric, the spectators especially applauded the passing of demons and skulls, called “catrinas”, which represent ladies of Mexican high society at the end of the 19th century.

The parade held this Saturday came after the filming of the film “Spectre”, from the James Bond agent saga in 2015, in Mexico City, where the event was staged. The film's success has led the mayor's office to replicate it every year since 2016.

In the country, the Day of the Dead is celebrated on the 1st and 2nd of November. In homes, altars with photos of ancestors next to their favorite dishes and drinks are common, also decorated with petals of the cempasúchil flower, which, according to legend, lights the path to death with its brilliant yellow color.
