For children, December is a month that passes slowly and, sometimes, the feeling is that Santa Claus will never arrive. Without homework and the rest of the year's obligations, there are many days with free hours.

When people reach adulthood, there is work, children, bills and many responsibilities that don't take time off. There are so many obligations that older people miss the boredom of when they were children. The busy routine means that, when you least expect it, the Christmas already knocking on the door.

A perception of time It has been studied a lot and today it is known that, for adults, time seems to pass much more quickly

A study carried out by German researchers points out that the feeling of “time passing more quickly” becomes even more evident when it comes to long periods, such as years. Experts explain that this is not only linked to age, but to emotional and social aspects as well.

In one interview for the BBC network, psychologist Cloves Amorim explains that “When you are a child, the stimuli you receive are limited and within a certain control. As you grow older and become an adult, more responsibilities are added to your routine and you become at the mercy of many variables, which accelerates your perception of time.” (with the BBC)

For the specialist, the passage of time is a subjective perception and can be changed to a feeling of slowness or acceleration depending on how you feel when doing each activity.

Another factor that interferes with the perception of time is the question of expectation. When you're a child there's anxiety, waiting to reunite with your family, the desire to finally receive a special gift or trying to catch Santa Claus's arrival – all of this makes it seem like time is passing more slowly.

Do you understand why it seems like less time has passed since last Christmas? 🎄
