Studio films Marvel, which belong to the group Disney, had not been released in Chinese cinemas since “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, in July 2019.

Beijing authorizes the screening of only a few dozen foreign feature films per year.

For the superproductions of Marvel, very popular in the country, the Chinese market is crucial: the first film Black Panther grossed 105 million dollars in cinemas across the China.

Chinese authorities never explained the reason for the disappearance of the films from Marvel of the country's cinemas in the last four years.

During the period, the Disney refused to obey the censors, who demanded the removal of any reference to homosexual relations in the films of the Marvel, as in "Eternal” (2021) and” Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness"(2022).

But the American group has also been accused of collaborating with the authorities of Beijing.

After the premiere of a new version of “Mulan“, as some scenes had been filmed in the controversial region of Xinjiang (site of attacks and epicenter of accusations against Beijing for violating the human rights of the Muslim population), boycott campaigns were announced, particularly in Western countries.
