Notre-Dame de Paris will reopen at the end of 2024, after the Olympic Games

“The works are progressing at a good pace, which allows us to be confident in reopening at the end of 2024, in accordance with the objective set by the president [Emmanuel Macron]”, confirmed the office of the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak.

The date chosen was December 8, 2024, the day of the Immaculate Conception, in accordance with the wishes of the ecclesiastical authorities.

Notre-Dame it was one of the major tourist attractions in Paris before the fire, with around 12 million visitors a year. Measuring 96 meters high, the tower was designed in the 15th century by architect Viollet-Le-Duc, and collapsed during the fire of April 2019, XNUMX, which sank the temple's entire lead roof.

This part is being rebuilt identically and with the original materials: oak wood for the structure (500 tons) and lead for the roof and decorations (250 tons).

So far, the wooden scaffolding has been placed, in the form of semi-arches and supported on the columns. The stones that form the arches have already been carved and are in place. Now the external scaffolding is missing, which will culminate at a height of 100m in the final phase.

The cleaning and restoration of 42.000 m² of walls are already ready, as well as the decorations (mural paintings, glassaria, sculptures…) that were spared from the fire, in the southern part of the main nave.
