Porto Alegre hosts the 19th edition of Fantaspoa, the largest fantasy film festival in Latin America

As usually happens every year in the city of Porto Alegre, since 2005, Fantaspoa has been taking place, the largest film festival dedicated exclusively to fantastic genre films (fantasy, science fiction, horror and thriller) in Latin America.

A 19th edition of Fantaspoa is running until April 30th in four different cultural spaces in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul: Capitol Cinematheque, Mario Quintana Culture House, Redemption Room e Ling Institute.

In total, there are 172 films shown, including shorts and feature films, the vast majority of which have never been released in Brazil. The festival will welcome more than 70 Brazilian and foreign guests, who will participate in 39 sessions discussed with the public. In addition to the exhibition sessions, parallel activities will be held, such as seven lectures, eight music sessions, three parties and the now traditional Madrugadão Fantaspoa.

As in the last edition, the event will be hybrid, with part of the program available online, exclusively for users in Brazilian territory. Fantaspoa's online exhibitions will be available free of charge on the website darkflix from April 20th to 30th, and will feature more than 10 feature films and 58 short films.

If it depends on Fantaspoa, the Tiradentes holiday will be full of science fiction, horror and fantasy. Starting work on Thursday (20), the Ling Institute offers two sessions set to music from the feature film The Circus Monster, at 19pm and 20:30pm.

On Friday (21), the programming will be Japanese horror Immersion, at 19:30 pm, and the commented session of Brazilian animation Forbidden World, at 19:30 pm, both at Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana. At the Cinematheque Capitol, there will be a commented session of the classic Japanese feature film Ju-on: The Scream, at 18:15 pm.

On Saturday (22), Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana presents North American horror The Ones You Didn't Burn, at 14pm. At Cinemateca Itália, at 18:15 pm, the Spanish drama will be shown Dryers. At 20:30 pm, the space also offers a commentary session of the North American thriller Meltdown: A Nuclear Family's Journey to Total Crazy.

To close the holiday program, on Sunday (23) the public can watch the South Korean drama Sirens, at 16:30 pm, at Cinemateca Capitol. And at Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana, at 19:30 pm, Brazilian terror The basement on Rua do Grito There will be a commented session.
