Faith in voting: candidates debate religion to attract voters

How to attract the vote of Christians and evangelicals remains at the center of discussions between presidential candidates in the 2022 elections, this Wednesday (17). Anything goes: sharing images with catchphrases to remembering supposed alliances with governments that persecute religions.

Simone Tebet (MDB)

The senator congratulated Minister Alexandre de Moraes who took office this Tuesday (16) as president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). In his speech, he defended the electronic voting machine and criticized fake news about the electoral process.

Tebet mentioned that he also defends the same ideals as Moraes. “I registered with the TSE a commitment to run a clean campaign, without fake news, without violence and respecting the rules and the Electoral Court”, she commented.

Once again, religion is once again the center of debate on the PT member's social networks. Lula reaffirmed that his electoral campaign respects all religions. “I do not use God’s name in vain.”

Yesterday, he used the network to say that Bolsonaro manipulated people's faith.

Ciro Gomes (PDT)

Apparently the discussion about the use of religion in the campaign paid off – and everything indicates that it will continue.

The pedetista criticized the publication that has been shared by allies of former president Lula, which says that “Bolsonaro uses God and God uses Lula”.

According to Ciro, “when the speech of the left resembles the fascism of the worst of the right, the use of God's name in vain already brings with it a strong punishment”.

After the portal Metropolis reveal that businesspeople supporting President Jair Bolsonaro defend a coup d'état If Lula is elected in October, Ciro proposed a boycott of products and services sold by these companies.

Bolsonaro (PT)

Without mentioning a name, the president used the term 'discondemned' to refer to the PT candidate. In the publication, he said that Daniel Ortega, president of Nicaragua and supposed ally of Lula, persecutes Christians. Bolsonaro also commented on the other alliances made by PT governments.

“It is strange that the PT hides these relationships and their most intimate agendas from Brazilians, such as the release of drugs and abortion, during the electoral period,” he wrote.
