Former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB) declared his vote for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the second round of the presidential election. In an announcement on social media, the toucan stated that he votes "for a history of struggle for democracy and social inclusion."
The publication is accompanied by two photos of FHC with the PT member, an old one, from the time when they contested elections against each other, and a current one, from when they met last year.
On the eve of the first round, the former Tucano president released a note recommending voting for those who defend “democracy and the fight against poverty and social inequality”. On that occasion, he did not mention the PT member by name. The candidate officially supported by the PSDB in the first round of the election was senator Simone Tebet (MDB).

Fernando Henrique Cardoso's statement comes one day after the governor of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), announced support for president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The agreement was poorly received by the party and criticized by historical toucans, such as Aloysio Nunes. The party released state directories to support any of the candidates for presidential succession.
Senator José Serra (PSDB) announced, this Tuesday (4), support for former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for the Presidency of the Republic. The toucan, who ran against Lula in 2002 and faced Dilma Rousseff (PT) in the 2010 contest, also endorsed the Bolsonarist candidate Tarcísio Freitas (Republicans) for governor of São Paulo against Fernando Haddad (PT). “I’m not going to dwell on the topic. Given the alternatives presented, I will vote for Lula. And, for the same reason, in São Paulo, my vote will be for Tarcísio de Freitas”, said Serra in a note.
