400 authors demand that streaming companies protect employees from anti-abortion policy in the US

This Thursday morning (28), 400 creators and screenwriters from North American television demanded by letter (Variety*) that streaming giants – such as Netflix, Disney and Apple – guarantee employees safety protocols against anti-abortion prohibitions.

What was required

In addition to demanding legal, financial and medical protections for pregnant women, the document also asks multinationals to stop making donations to candidates who are against the universal right to abortion, abolished 34 days ago in the country by the American Supreme Court.

Big people fight

Other studios such as Amazon, Paramount, NBC Universal, Lionsgate were targeted by the letter. One of the main demands has to do with support for employees who wish to terminate their pregnancies and need to move to states where there are fewer restrictions. The collective also expressed a rush for changes to be made by the aforementioned entertainment industry leaders.

The editors defined that the measures should be taken within a maximum of ten days. Artists such as Shonda Rhimes (award-winning creator of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder) and Natasha Lyonne (actress of Orange is the New Black e Russian doll).
