Among the actions announced, the Google updated the Earth Timelapse tool – which has been capturing images via satellite since 1984 – and now includes images from 2020 to 2022, showing the changes in the location that occurred during that period. The mechanism is a feature of the Google Earth, digital replica of planet Earth in 3D.

The AI of Google will also be used to detect and alert, in Search and Google Maps, about possible disasters in the region. To achieve this, the company works in partnership with the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) and the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM).

Fire alerts rely on AI that uses satellite images to detect early stages of fires. The flood alert emits real-time signals on Maps and Search and will now show forecasts for 27 cities in Brazil.
