The British environment minister, Therese Coffey, attended Lula's inauguration in Brasília and showed interest in increasing donations for the preservation of the main Brazilian biome, Reuters reported.
“It’s something we’re looking at seriously,” Coffey told news agency (*). According to the minister, the British are already the third largest international supporter of the Brazilian environment, with donations of 250 million pounds sterling (R$1,6 billion) throughout the partnership between the nations.
The value would be equivalent to the total Amazon Fund, which currently accumulates around R$1,7 billion in donations. Following the federal government's resumption of the fund, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced this Monday (2), in Manaus, a new donation from the country to the fund, totaling 35 million euros (R$199 million).
