“It is completely unacceptable that the circulation of Russian gas continues to be authorized in Finland, more than six months after (Russian President Vladimir) Putin began an invasion of Ukraine,” he said. Olli Tiainen, a Greenpeace activist, in a statement.

“It is a cargo ship transporting LNG from Russia,” Olga Vaisanen, a spokeswoman for the Finnish group Gasum, told AFP.

The terminal operator explained that militants climbed onto cargo cranes while two environmental organization boats remained outside the area, located near the border with Sweden.

Last week, Greenpeace campaigners also blocked a delivery of Russian gas to an LNG terminal in Nynäshamn, near Stockholm.

There are currently no European sanctions on Russian gas imports, only against oil and coal.
