FSD Beta v12 update arrives late

A Tesla is finally releasing the FSD Beta v12 software, which the CEO Elon Musk described it as “impressive” – a term he has used for several previous updates. The update had been awaited for some time, but, like many others in the Tesla, suffered delays of months.

FSD Beta v12 brings significant improvements to the company's machine learning algorithm. Tesla, which now benefits from “end-to-end neural networks”. This means that decision-making can be based on deep learning from the enormous volume of driving data from the Tesla, instead of being programmed by engineers.

FSD: Still a driver assistance system

At the moment, FSD offers little practical difference to how people use their cars, as it is officially a “level 2” system, where the driver is still responsible for decisions while the car is running. Therefore, you need to continue paying attention to the road, even if the Tesla has repeated several times that the software will be capable of operating at a fully autonomous “level 5”, like a “robotaxi”, at some point in the future (a future that, according to CEO Musk, has always arrived “next year” for several years ).

The FSD is also expensive – $12.000 currently, even though it once cost $15.000 – so many owners don't even bother buying it. In response to the high price, the Tesla also offers a $199 monthly subscription model.

Tesla tries to increase adherence to FSD with free trials

The adoption rate for the FSD has been relatively low. Therefore, the Tesla occasionally offers temporary system testing for certain customers. There has already been a 3-month FSD promotion as a sales incentive at the end of the quarter and, recently, a 30-day free trial of Pilotthe Enhanced Automatic (but not FSD) for the holiday. You can also earn three months of free FSD by using an owner referral code when purchasing a vehicle.

Apparently, these promotions were not enough, and the Tesla doesn't seem to give up until everyone has a chance to try FSD software. Earlier today, Musk told employees at Tesla that they should start offering FSD demonstrations at all Teslas newly delivered products, which will likely cause a large backlog of orders during the traditional delivery rush at the end of the quarter.
