O Rock in Rio is back in the City of Rock – in Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Park – after two years of pandemic. The numbers for this edition of the festival are impressive, from ticket sales (made available in September last year): in less than 90 minutes, all 200 Rock in Rio Cards – entry valid for the seven days – were sold out. Detail: no attraction had been confirmed until then!

The phrase “it will be the biggest Rock in Rio of all time” – said countless times by the event organizers – seems to be no joke. There will be more than 250 shows, 670 confirmed artists and 500 hours of pure entertainment in the City of Rock.

How to get to Rock in Rio?

This year, Rio City Hall and the event organizers created special traffic schemes to reach Cidade do Rock, in Barra da Tijuca, west of the capital.

The city hall informed that there will be no parking around the site and only licensed cars will be able to circulate freely.

Subway and BRT

The subway will keep the Jardim Oceânico station, the connection point for the festival's special bus, open 24 hours a day for boarding. The other stations operate during normal hours, but will remain open during the early hours of the morning only for disembarking.

To avoid headaches, it is recommended to purchase your ticket in advance, costing R$6,50.

The BRT will not provide special service for the festival this year. The service will operate during normal hours – consult the Mobi-Rio website. However, some itineraries will be available 24 hours a day.

Rock express

Another option for users is to use the Rock Express service – the big new feature of this year's edition. There are buses exclusive to the event to transport the public, with disembarkation at the Olympic Terminal (Cidade do Rock).

They will be available at Jardim Oceânico subway station and Alvorada BRT station.

Tickets include round trip and cost R$22,00. The first one leaves at 12pm from both terminals. Return from Cidade do Rock at 14pm and continue until 5am. You can buy the ticket at Join

First class

Another option is First Class (see here), which drops you off inside Rock in Rio. There are several points around the city where you can catch the bus. They are valid for the round trip to the event and cost R$125,00. The buses have air conditioning and reclining seats.

Uber

For those who want to go and return by Uber, the company will have a space with water, cell phone charger, bathroom and food trucks one kilometer away from the event. There you can arrive or order your Uber to leave Rock in Rio. The location is at the Riocentro Convention Center.

Complaints

Many people didn't like the information that there will be no direct BRT to the wind and they will have to pay more to use the same bus. There were complaints on the internet.

And for those coming from outside Rio?

If you are coming from Galeão airport, you can take the Red Line, Yellow Line or Uber directly to the event. But you will have to face slow traffic. If you want to avoid traffic jams, the best option is to take the BRT from RIO Galeão station to Alvorada and from there take the Rock Express. In addition to this option, there is also First Class transport that leaves from the airport.

Coming from Santos Dumont, you can also take First Class or Uber. If you want public transport, you have the option of taking the VLT from Santos Dumont to the Cinelândia metro station and then the Rock Express.

The route from the bus station is very similar, the difference is that you will take the VLT station, at the Rua Equador exit, and then the metro at Carioca station.
