Analysis: Queen Elizabeth II shielded the monarchy. Good luck to the King

I was saddened by the queen's death. She was one of the great figures of the 20th century and also of the last two decades. Giant, unparalleled figure. I remember, before the Internet era, that there was a lot of talk that the most famous figures in the world were Pelé, the Pope and the Queen. The order varied.

Queen Elizabeth II's life trajectory is dizzying. Hitler, Winston Churchill, JF Kennedy, Diana, The Beatles.

Privileged witness to History. And character too.

I participated in at least two events where the Queen was present, during my days as a correspondent in London. Discreet, delicate figure, almost fragile appearance. Firm, sharp look.

Many doubted their royals would survive Diana's tragic death. She survived and grew.

The monarchical regime seems to be an anachronism, an outdated system, almost bizarre in light of the advances of modern society. But democracy also has its oddities, we can witness this right in Brazil.

The British monarchy perfectly fit the figure of Queen Elizabeth II. She shielded the reign. It all made sense, almost a century ago, even to those who despised it.

It remains to be seen whether King Charles III will have the same skill and greatness. We will know if the queen was greater than the throne.

Charles has always had a particular interest in protecting the environment. This is enough to wish the King good luck.
