“It requires a new approach”, assesses Bonner about the presidential debate on TV Globo

Last Thursday (29), seven presidential candidates met on TV Globo for the last debate before the first round of elections. The debate was mediated by journalist and presenter William Bonner, who assessed the need for a new approach for the next editions - especially considering the growth of social networks.

“The level of tension in these presidential debates has increased with each election. And it is no coincidence that this happens simultaneously with the emergence and growth of social networks. The warmongering intolerance they feed spreads outside the digital, virtual universe. And of course politics is the environment for the perfect storm. But we are learning every year.”

“I think that Thursday's debate opened a new era, in which candidates with nothing to lose can dedicate themselves to sabotaging the previously agreed dynamics. And it doesn't matter for what purpose. This is new and I think it requires a new approach,” said Bonner.

William Bonner's assessment was published in Ancelmo Gois' column, in the newspaper O Globo.

Bonner also raised the possibility of establishing new rules for candidates' participation in debates, taking into account political representation.
