Amazon announces new cut and lays off 9 employees

Amazon announced this Monday (20) another round of cuts. The decision was communicated by executive president Andy Jassy.

In November last year, Amazon announced that it planned to lay off around 10 employees. At the beginning of this year, Jassy announced that the cut would reach 18 thousand.

In just three months, around 30 thousand employees of 'big tech' were fired. Amazon had more than 1,5 million workers. According to Reuters, the Amazon is the second largest private employer in the United States, behind Walmart.

“As we just completed the second phase of our operational plan last week, I'm writing to share that we intend to eliminate approximately 9 more positions in the coming weeks, primarily in AWS, PXT, advertising and Twitch”, wrote Andy Jassy.

Following the justification of other big techs, Amazon stated that the decision was motivated by economic instability.

“Given the uncertain economy in which we reside and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount“, added Jassy.
