World Cup friendlies: Mexico loses to Sweden and Germany is not excited

In the friendly matches leading up to the World Cup, Mexico lost to Sweden, Germany beat a lackluster Oman, Argentina thrashed the United Arab Emirates, Croatia beat Saudi Arabia by just 1 goal and Poland defeated Chile. Find out more about the friendlies that took place this Wednesday (16).

Mexico vs Sweden

The selection of Mexico was defeated by 2 to 1 in a friendly played this Wednesday in Spain, the last test for coach Gerardo Martino's team before the World Cup. The goals only came in the second half. The Mexican team dominated the action for most of the first half, but was surprised by Sweden.

Mexico travels to Doha on Thursday and debuts in the World Cup on November 22 against Poland, in Group C, which also includes Argentina and Saudi Arabia.

Poland x Chile

The Polish team defeated Chile 1-0, with the only goal scored by Krzysztof Piatek, in the 39th minute of the second half.

Before kick-off, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the two victims of a missile crash on Polish territory, amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Chile team, which did not qualify for the World Cup, dominated much of the game and had four clear chances to score, but failed to get the better of goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.

Betting on the counterattack, the Poles managed to close the score. A Poland debut in World Cup on November 22nd against Mexico, fur Group C, which also includes Argentina and South Korea.

Germany vs Oman

Based on the comments on social media, Germany was not excited: with a discreet performance, the European team beat Oman 1-0. Niclas Füllkrug, Werder Bremen striker, scored the German goal in the 35th minute of the second half.

A Germany debuts in the World Cup against the Japanese on November 23. Afterwards, they face Spain and Costa Rica in the Group E.

Argentina x United Arab Emirates

the game of Argentina was the most exciting of the day: the South American team beat the United Arab Emirates 5-0 at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, in Abu Dhabi.

The goals were scored by Julián Álvarez, Ángel Di María (2x), Lionel Messi and Joaquín Correa.

A The Argentine team debuts at the World Cup on November 22nd against Saudi Arabia, in Group C, which also includes Mexico and Poland.

Croatia vs Saudi Arabia

The current world runner-up defeated Saudi Arabia 1-0 this Wednesday (16). In a stadium with few fans in Riyadh, striker Andrej Kramaric scored the last goal of the match, in which Luka Modric, Ballon d'Or winner in 2018, played for 30 minutes.

The Croatians are in Group F of the World Cup alongside Belgium, Canada and Morocco, their opponent in debut on November 23rd, at Al-Ba stadiumyt.

In turn, the Saudi Arabia debuts on November 21st against Argentina, fur Group C, where Mexico and Poland are also located.

What to expect in the next few days before the World Cup?

The World Cup starts next Sunday, November 20th, with the match between Qatar – the host country of the competition – and Ecuador, in Group A. Other teams in the group, such as Senegal and the Netherlands, will not have games until the opening of the major competition. (Spear)

This Thursday (17th) Iran will face Nicaragua in a friendly match that will take place at 13 pm (Brasília time). At the same time, Spain faces Jordan, in Amman.

The Portugal team also faces Nigeria this Thursday (17) but will not be able to count on striker Cristiano Ronaldo who has gastritis, according to coach Fernando Santos.

On Friday (18) there is Serbia vs Bahrain. The world champion, France, follows Brazil's plan and will not have matches until the World Cup.
