ANALYSIS: Debate without winner, but anything can happen until the elections

The first debate between Bolsonaro and Lula in the second round was a little better compared to those held in the first. In the new format, the two candidates had more time and freedom to speak. But this improvement is not enough to justify any optimism. Little was discussed about concrete proposals for Brazil. There was an exchange of accusations, fake news, irony and little substance.

For a Brazil that needs to find its way to sustainable, more inclusive growth, with urgent improvements in Education, the debate was disappointing.

Did anyone win? Everyone has their own guess, no one knows for sure. But it seems clear that this Sunday's debate, the 16th, was not enough to change the voting intention polls. Which indicates a clear – but not comfortable – leadership by Lula.

We still have almost two weeks of campaigning, another debate, and anything can happen in a country whose ethical and moral limits have been expanded to yet unknown borders.
