Despite the attacks, the Armed Forces will receive R$110 million from the TSE

The Armed Forces should receive R$ 110,6 million from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) to act in this year's elections, according to information published in the newspaper O Globo.

In elections, the Armed Forces work with the TSE to guarantee the logistics and security of the election.

The factor that draws attention in this case is the amount transferred to the military. The amount is double the R$ 54.989.269,31 that the TSE allocated for the 2018 elections. There is also the aggravating factor of support from members of the military leadership for President Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) recurring speech, with false accusations of fraud to electronic voting machines.

You should probably be questionI wonder if the amount of R$110 million is in line with adjusted inflation, right? Taking into account the accumulated index of 27,06% in the period, the current budget for the military would be approximately R$71.261.454,30.

So far, there has been no justification for the increase.

Between the Forces, the Army is the one that will receive the largest portion of this budget, around R$83,8 million; the Air Force, R$14,8 million and the Navy, more than R$11,9 million.

Attacks by the Ministry of Defense against the TSE

The conflict between the TSE and the Ministry of Defense has intensified in recent months amid the escalation of offensives by Bolsonaro over the integrity of the electoral process.

On the 19th, for example, the Court countered criticisms made by minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira regarding the three proposals considered “essential” by the military wing for the 2022 electoral process.

Previous to this, on July 12, the Armed Forces informed that they intend to carry out their own voting monitoring scheme, as per revealed the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo.
