Archbishop of Aparecida criticizes 'dragon' of hate and lies

The Archbishop of Aparecida, Dom Orlando Brandes, asked for justice and priority for good during mass at the National Sanctuary of Aparecida, this Wednesday (12). During the sermon, he criticized the "dragon of hate", the "dragon of lies" and the "dragon of unemployment and hunger".

Dom Orlando also stated that the country has already defeated the “pandemic dragon”. Now, according to him, “we have the dragon of hatred, which does so much harm, and the dragon of lies, which is not from God. The dragon of unemployment and hunger.”

In the 2019 sermon, he had mentioned the “dragon of traditionalism”. And, last year, he argued that Brazil, “to be a beloved homeland, cannot be armed homeland“, but did not explicitly mention President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), a defender of greater gun rights for the population.

Candidate for reelection, Bolsonaro is expected to participate in some of the celebrations in Aparecida, despite the CNBB having issued a note condemning the exploitation of faith:

“We regret, at this time of the electoral campaign, the intensification of the exploitation of faith and religion as a way to garner votes in the second round. Specifically religious moments cannot be used by candidates to present their campaign proposals and other issues related to the elections”, says the entity, without naming candidates.
