Argentina raises interest rate to 97% to combat inflation

The Central Bank of Argentina raised the monetary policy interest rate from 91% to 97% this Monday (15), with the aim of combating annual inflation of more than 108%, in a tense social and economic context before the October presidential elections.

The objective of the measure is “to act immediately to prevent financial volatility from acting as a driver of inflation expectations,” the monetary authority said in a statement.
