Shooting attack at two schools in Aracruz, ES, kills 3 and injures 11; killer is a former student and was captured

An armed teenager attacked two schools in the city of Aracruz, Espírito Santo, this Friday morning (25). According to local police, three people died - two teachers and a 12-year-old girl - and 11 others were injured. The shooter is a teenager, a former student at one of the schools. He was detained hours after the crime.

The perpetrator of the attack on two schools in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, used his father's gun, a military police officer, in the action. He remained calm when he was apprehended at home, according to the re-elected governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande (PSB). “His parents collaborated (when the young man was detained), they were destroyed,” he said in an interview.

The teenager is 16 years old and studied until June this year at the first school to be invaded, the Primo Bitti State School, which is in the Coqueiral neighborhood and about a kilometer away from the Praia de Coqueiral Educational Center, the other school unit affected.

According to Casagrande, the shooter confessed to the crime to the Civil Police, showed the camouflage clothing with a Nazi swastika that he wore during the attacks and the weapons. “He had a .40 pistol from the State, from the Military Police, which belonged to his father, and a private .38 revolver, as well as three magazines. The governor also said that he had been planning the attack for two years. “Until then, there is no reason.”

The Governor of Espírito Santo, Renato Casagrande, canceled his work schedule in São Paulo and went to Aracruz. He declared official mourning in the state:

The motivations for the crime are still unclear. What is known so far is that the shooter first invaded the state school, went to the teachers' room and shot at the professionals. Six were injured and two died at the scene. Four injured people are in serious condition.

At the private school on the same street, the teenager shot anyone he met along the way. A 12-year-old girl died before emergency services arrived.
