Acts against democracy: see the repercussions of the Bolsonarist demonstrations against the election results

Jurists, politicians and even representatives of truck drivers and highway police consider that the road closures and demonstrations by Jair Bolsonaro supporters are an affront to democracy. Truck driver leaders claim that there is no strike in the category and that blockades are being carried out by Bolsonaro's followers. Federation that represents members of the PRF says that Bolsonaro's silence about defeat at the polls encourages protests.

The Bolsonaro demonstrations, which include truck drivers supporting Jair Bolsonaro, are acts against democracy, a crime typified by law, according to jurist Wálter Maierovitch, in an interview with the UOL portal.

“We are witnessing criminal organizations promoting attacks against the Democratic Rule of Law. There is a law defending the Democratic Rule of Law. What these criminals are doing is typified in this law”, explained the jurist. For him, Bolsonaro's silence can be considered an “omission and attack against the Constitution”.

Representatives of PRF police officers and truck drivers condemn protests

The National Federation of Highway Police officers released a note in which the corporation's employees reaffirm their commitment to the Democratic Rule of Law and respect for the results of the 2022 elections, and points to Bolsonaro as encouraging the coup protests.

“The stance of the current President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, in maintaining silence and not recognizing the results of the polls ends up making it difficult to pacify the country, encouraging some of his followers to adopt blockades on Brazilian roads”, says the note.

Federal deputy Nereu Crispim (PSD-RS) – who represents truck drivers' agendas in Congress – says that non-Bolsonaro movements do not represent the category.

Blockades and protests planned before elections?

The Public News Agency reported that the roadblocks were already being articulated on the networks weeks before the vote.

“Prepare the tents, the people in the cities will go to the barracks, the truck drivers and the agricultural sector will end up on the highways”, says the message, with spelling errors, which circulated on the Bolsonarist Telegram. Although the anti-democratic strike only took place at the end of October — after the results of the elections that declared Jair Bolsonaro's defeat to Lula — the call was made weeks before, on the 14th. “ON THE 30TH we will vote and STAY ON THE STREETS”, it provided for a group call with 3,5 members.

Even supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro went online to condemn the anti-democratic movement, such as congresswoman Janaína Pascoal, one of the applicants for the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff.
