In a humorous tone, in the book, Julie comments and reproduces the recipes of the famous Californian cook and presenter Julia Child (1912-2004), author of “Mastering the Art of French Cooking“, launched in 1961, with the aim of popularizing French cuisine among American housewives.

The film Julie & Julia, directed by Nora Ephron, is an adaptation of Julie's book and Julia Child's autobiography, “My Life in France“. The two were played by actresses Amy Adams, as Julie Powell, and Meryl Streep, as Julia Child.
