'Barbie' stops showing in Algeria due to immorality

Algeria withdrew the film "Barbie" from cinemas for "moral outrage" after more than two weeks of showing, several local media outlets reported.

According to the online news site 24H Algeria, which cites “well-informed sources”, the film was removed from the programming of all theaters in the country.

The distributor also announced that the film, shown in Algerian cinemas since July 19, is being removed from programming.

Local theaters changed programming and cut Greta Gerwig's film, without providing reasons.

“Algeria was gripped by controversy over Barbie because of scenes aimed at an adult audience” and allusions to homosexuality, indicated the TSA portal.

Last Thursday, Kuwait banned the film “an outrage against public morals” and, on Wednesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Culture reported that it requested a ban on the work because it “promotes homosexuality”.

The debut of “Barbie” boosted sales of the doll belonging to the American group Mattel.
