Brazil is the second country with the most digital crimes in the world

Brazil is facing an alarming increase in digital crimes, with more than 80 people falling victim to financial scams in just the first nine months of 2023. As the holiday season approaches, online shopping grows, and with it, The threat of financial scams is also growing, making this scenario even more worrying.

Os latest data reveal that this year alone, these scams have already caused losses exceeding the R$500 million mark. Brazil now occupies second place in the world ranking of victims of digital crimes, behind only Mexico.

According to a survey of the six largest online stores in the country, seven out of ten victims are men up to 31 years of age. Surprisingly, more than half (54%) of victims were trying to sell products online and fell into the fake payment trap, where scammers send fake deposit receipts for purchases. The victims deliver the products, and the criminals disappear.

The second method preferred by scammers is account hacking (22%), in which they use the victim's login and password to make fraudulent purchases. False advertisements come next (21%), often attracting victims with apparently advantageous promotions on products such as cell phones, video games, computers, household appliances and audio and video products.
