The data showed a significant increase of around 150 million since the start of the pandemic, in 2020. To get an idea: approximately 2,3 billion people were moderately or severely food insecure in 2021, which means 29% of the world's population.

Brazil appears in the indexes with representation of 61,3 million people who suffered between 2019 and 2021 – that is, 28,9% of the Brazilian population.

It is worth remembering that in June, representatives from different spheres of society met to discuss the topic at the 1st National Meeting against Hunger. The observatory assessed the diagnosis that 33 million Brazilians are experiencing severe food insecurity. The meeting also highlights the main causes that lead us to this sad scenario, such as the dismantling of public policies to combat poverty and hunger; unemployment and high inflation, where the poorest people are penalized.
