Brazilian dies in race on Mont Blanc

A Brazilian runner died in an accident during a race at the peak of Mont-Blanc, in Europe, on Monday night (22). The name of the runner was not released.

The Brazilian was taking part in the “Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc” race. The marathon takes place in the Alps, a mountain region in France.

In a statement, the event organizers explained that they would not disclose the runner's name “out of respect for family and friends”.

The race was an ultra endurance race for teams, covering 300 kilometers and 25 thousand meters of elevation gain.

The man was 60 years old and fell from a height of 100 meters.

The championship took place in the city of Les Contamines, in the southwest of Mont Blanc, in France.

The organization stated that “the helicopter rescue team arrived at the scene and confirmed the death”. She decided to keep the event going and pass on information about what happened to the participants.

The race events are held on the triple border between Italy, Switzerland and France.

On Friday (26) the main race of the tournament will take place, the marathon will be 171 kilometers long and will have the presence of 2.300 runners, in Chamonix, eastern France.
