Letter bomb injures one person at Ukrainian embassy in Madrid

An employee of the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid was slightly injured by an explosion while handling a letter this Wednesday (30). The explosion occurred around 13 pm (local time) when the employee opened an envelope containing a small homemade device, according to local press.

Police have cordoned off the area, located in a residential area northeast of the Spanish capital, and engineers and emergency services are working at the scene of the incident.

“Around 13 pm today, the National Police received a warning of an explosion at the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid. It occurred when one of the employees was handling a letter”, according to sources interviewed by AFP.

The employee was injured, initially slightly, and went to a hospital on his own, according to unofficial information. The National Police is already investigating the facts, with the participation of the Forensic Police.
