Céline Dion cancels tour due to neurological problems

Canadian singer Céline Dion announced this Thursday (8) that she will postpone her European tour, scheduled for February, due to a "very rare neurological problem" that affects her vocal capabilities. In a five-minute video posted on Instagram, she emotionally explained to her fans, in French and English, about the problem she is facing.

The singer explained, in the video she posted on her Instagram page, that she was recently diagnosed with a very rare neurological problem, known as stiff person syndrome.

The disease causes progressive stiffness in the muscles, mainly affects the hips and extremities and causes spasms in the patient.

The problem prevents “the use of the vocal cords”, explains Dion in the video. “Not much is still known about this rare disease, but we now know it is the cause of the muscle spasms I suffer from,” she adds.

The interpreter of “My heart will go on” had already mentioned these spasms last season, which forced her to also postpone her European shows.

As part of the European tour “Courage World Tour”, Dion planned to start her shows in the Czech Republic in February.

“I am extremely sorry to have to tell you that I will not be ready to resume my European tour in February,” explained Dion, who said she was being treated by an “excellent medical team.”

The French festival of Vieilles Charrues, where Dion was scheduled to perform on July 13, decided to cancel the show entirely and refund 55 tickets already sold. At the moment, the shows scheduled between August 26th and October 4th, 2023 at La Défense Arena (near Paris) are maintained.
