2022 Census: what is the research for and how to identify IBGE employees?

How many are we, where are we and how do we live? The IBGE Demographic Census will answer these questions and present the current portrait of Brazil. The responses collected by uniformed and identified employees will be the basis for actions in the areas of health, education and other public policies.

The collection of the 2022 Demographic Census by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) began this week in 5.570 municipalities. The survey serves to collect information about the living situation of the population in each of the municipalities. To do this, IBGE employees, called census takers, ask interviewees a series of questions, either online or in person.

“Our team will visit all Brazilian homes, collecting information that will be very relevant for the future of the country”, explained the president of IBGE, Eduardo Rios Neto.

The results of this research are essential to define, for example, the public policies applied in the country. The last census was carried out in 2010.

Two types of questionary: the basics, with 26 questions, which take around 5 minutes to answer. O questionExpanded ary, with 77 questions, takes about 16 minutes.

Immigrants and refugees in Brazil will be incorporated into the Census

The focus will be on municipalities in Roraima that received a large number of immigrants from Venezuela. This is the case of the cities of Boa Vista and Pacaraima – the main entry point for Venezuelan immigrants –, as well as other states of the federation that received foreigners.

IBGE has signed technical cooperation agreements with UN agencies (United Nations), such as UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). The objective is to facilitate discussions related to the stages of analysis of census results, planning and observation of household surveys using the IBGE sample.
