With war in Ukraine, Eurovision will be hosted by the United Kingdom

Traditionally, the European music tournament is hosted by the winner of the last edition. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine changed the schedule and the 2023 edition will be different.

Ukraine was the favorite in the 2022 edition of Eurovision, which took place in Italy. She won the award with the song “Stefania” by the group Kalush Orchestra. By being victorious, she also won the right to hold the next event in her country. But the war came and everything changed.

In June, the European Broadcasting Union (promoter of the event) declared that it was not safe to hold the 67th in the country, and passed the role to the runner-up, the United Kingdom. Despite not taking place on Ukrainian soil, the leadership of the event still belongs to the nation at war.

Seven British cities were chosen to host the event: Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. The United Kingdom has hosted Eurovision 8 times, most recently in 1998 in Birmingham.
