Meet Luciana Santos, Brazil's new Minister of Science and Technology

The vice-governor of Pernambuco, Luciana Santos (PCdoB-PE), was appointed by Lula to head the Ministry of Science and Technology. Luciana is the national president of PCdoB, a party that was with Lula in the electoral campaign and will be part of the elected president's parliamentary base. Find out more about her!

Born in Recife, Luciana Santos was the first woman to hold the position of vice-governor of Pernambuco, elected in 2018 together with Paulo Câmara (PSB). Both end their terms this month.

Luciana He ran in these elections on Danilo Cabral's (PSB) ticket, also as vice-president, but was not elected. She is an engineer and began her political career in the student movement.

She was a state and federal deputy and mayor of Olinda for two terms. In addition, she was also state secretary of Science and Technology.
