Transition PEC 📄

The Senate Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) approved the so-called Transition PEC – whose main objective is to ensure the payment of R$600,00 from Bolsa Família (currently Auxílio Brasil). (G1)

The text was approved with three main changes in relation to the initial version proposed by the government transition team:

  • The value outside the spending ceiling for Bolsa Família fell from the initial R$175 billion to R$145 billion;
  • The validity period of this Bolsa Família outside the ceiling went from four to two years;
  • The deadline for the elected government to submit a proposal for a “new fiscal regime” to Congress increased from one year to seven months.

Goodbye to the tennis guru 🎾

Nick Bollettieri, known for being one of the most famous tennis coaches in the world, died last Sunday (4) at the age of 91. The information was confirmed by David R. Legge, a journalist who is writing an authorized biography about the coach. Legge said Bollettieri began having kidney problems several months ago and that his health has deteriorated since then. Rights in Honduras 🇭🇳

Honduran authorities will partially suspend constitutional rights as part of an effort to combat an apparent rise in extortion, raising fears of human rights violations and warnings about growing authoritarianism in Central America.

Under the plan, which will come into force on Tuesday night (6) and last for at least 30 days, thousands of security forces will be deployed to 162 gang-infested neighborhoods in the country's two largest cities, San Pedro Sula, and the capital, Tegucigalpa. (The Guardian*)
