PRF director becomes defendant for misconduct in Rio

The general director of the Federal Highway Police (PRF), Silvinei Vasques, became a defendant for administrative improbity in the Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro. The decision responded to a request from the Federal Public Ministry, according to which Vasques misused his position for the electoral benefit of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The MPF requested Vasques' immediate removal from his duties as head of the PRF for 90 days. In the decision, the judge of the 8th Federal Court of Rio, Jose Arthur Diniz Borges, makes the general director a defendant and determines that he be heard within 30 days before deciding whether to remove him or not.

According to the MPF, Silvinei used the institution's image “with a free and conscious desire to promote effective demonstrations, sometimes veiled and sometimes overt, of appreciation for the current President of the Republic and candidate for re-election Jair Messias Bolsonaro”.

The MPF understands that Silvinei Vasques acted intentionally, when there is the intention to violate the functional duties of the position of general director of the PRF. “The constant linking of messages and speeches at official events, interviews with media outlets and private social networks, but open to the general public, all easily accessible on the internet… denote the clear intention to promote, even if through subterfuge or poorly disguised overlapping of images, true party political propaganda and personal promotion of authority for electoral purposes”, says the request.
