Elections: Google creates new features to help with transparency

To clarify doubts and increase voter knowledge, the display of reliable information is now prioritized in voter searches. Google, for terms related to voting and elections. Thus, in several products in the Google, the display of results on these topics will highlight a series of official data and information, provided by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), which is a partner in the project.

  • Podcast 'Elections on the Internet': journalist and writer Patrícia Campos Mello will discuss the role of digital media in transforming electoral campaigns in this new program, which will also monitor voter engagement.
  • Free Checking App: the 1st application of Check it out will provide content verified by a consortium of 43 journalists and 43 information outlets that check the veracity of facts. The app is available for Android and iOS. The Comprova project is a partner of Google and the TSE.

  • Integrity: o Google and the TSE expanded the official information guide offered to Brazilians, which was already available on previous electoral periods. The partnership was renewed in February this year and, starting next week, the 'Electoral Integrity Dashboard' will be visible to users. (Estadão)
  • Youtube: This year's difference is a quick access panel with information about the e-Título, both in the search engine and Google and on YouTube, where there is also a series of videos “reinforcing the integrity of the electronic voting machine”.

Political advertising

  • "Google for Voters“: the company launched an exclusive training program on elections, with guidance on how to identify, research and check the veracity of information on the topic.
  • "Know your vote“: a series of videos on democracy, citizenship and media education made with the support of partner organizations was launched. The idea is to contribute to increasing diversity “in decision-making spaces in the public arena”.

Search Trend

  • User interests: the initiative Central Google Trends – Elections 2022 publishes, in real time, the candidates, parties and other terms related to the elections that were most searched, dividing the trends by period.
