Elections 2022: Who is Nikolas Ferreira?

The 26-year-old Bolsonaro candidate won the position of federal deputy with the most votes in these elections and the third in the history of Brazil. A conservative evangelical with an influencer feel, Nikolas Ferreira surfed the green and yellow wave with a loyal audience in evangelical churches.

“Christian, conservative and defender of the family”, this is how the federal deputy with the most votes in these elections, Nikolas Ferreira (PL), describes himself. Councilor of Belo Horizonte, he is a supporter of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The 26-year-old got 1,47 million votes and took third place on the list of best-voted deputies in the country's history, but in Minas Gerais he is in first place.

On social media, Nikolas coordinates “Direita Minas”, which is where his electorate comes from. The page is a kind of MBL (Movimento Brasil Livre), which created names like Kim Kataguiri and Arthur do Val. Furthermore, he has a degree in Law from PUC-Minas, a place where the boy said he suffered reprisals for his ultra-conservative thinking.

Using the Social Blade platform, used to analyze engagement on social networks, the Curto News found that Nikolas has an engagement of over 14% on Instagram. This number takes into account the likes, comments, shares and other interactions on your publications. For a profile with 3,5 million followers, the performance is well above average – which is around 0,5% and 1% for accounts with more than one million followers.

Nikolas' number in these elections was equal to that of Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL): 2222. The son of the president of the republic is also the record holder for votes. The common number even got into trouble this year, as it had been used by Tiririca since 2010, “it doesn't get any worse”.

The young man received R$280 in donations:

  • R$ 100 thousand from Ronosalto Pereira Neves
  • R$60 thousand from Carlos Bartolomeu
  • R$ 35 thousand from Mário Gonçalves Vasques Junior
  • R$30 in crowdfunding
  • R$ 20 thousand from Gabriel Thadeu
  • among others.

Nikolas' campaign was digital, publishing viral videos about his conservative views.

“In fact, I didn’t expect it. It is a really very gratifying result. The fruit of our long-term work to show that Christians can be light everywhere, that they were called to be light in darkness. And showing that it is possible to run a clean, transparent campaign, without public money,” he declared after the votes were counted.
