Controversies

Musk is currently the richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $214 billion, according to Forbes. However, it's not just his fortune that draws attention. The billionaire's statements about transgender people tend to go viral and start heated discussions on Twitter – which, in fact, he is thinking about buying.

In early July, for example, Musk questionor why transgender people undergo gender-affirming surgery. “At the same time, we are told that gender differences do not exist and that the genders are so profoundly different that irreversible surgery is the only option. Maybe someone wiser than me can explain this dichotomy”, he commented in a publication by journalist Matt Taibbi about the documentary What's a Woman? (What is a woman?).

Profiles of trans people refuted Musk's statements.

In 2020, Musk tweeted that “pronouns suck,” then deleted the post after being accused of transphobia. In response to criticism, he wrote: “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare.”
