In 15 days, positivity for covid-19 grows eight percentage points and reaches 22,3%, shows ITpS

In 15 days, positivity for SARS-CoV-2 (covid-19) grew eight percentage points and in the week from September 3 to 9 it reached 22,3%. The rate is over 26% across all age groups from 29 to 79 years old – the highest (29%) was observed in people aged 39 to 49 years old.

The analyzes are from All for Health Institute (ITpS) based on molecular diagnostic data carried out by the laboratories Dasa, DB Molecular, Fleury, Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE), Hilab, HLAGyn and Sabin.

In monitoring on August 30, ITpS indicated that the positivity rate for Covid-19 it was at 15,3%. After the data was released, results of new molecular diagnoses for the week ending August 19 were entered into the Institute's database, and the percentage was updated to 14,3%. Therefore, at this moment we are talking about growth of eight percentage points in 15 days, not seven. Readjustments are made whenever new data arrives from partner laboratories in order to make the analysis more accurate.

In the federative units analyzed, the Federal District leads, with 34% positivity for covid-19. Next are Goiás (28%), Rio de Janeiro (24%), Minas Gerais (18%), and São Paulo and Paraná (both with 16%). Santa Catarina had the biggest percentage increase in 15 days, from 7% to 13%.

Since the beginning of the partnership with the laboratories, in November 2021, ITpS has analyzed 3.869.897 diagnostic test results. In the last year – from September 4, 2022 to September 9 of this year, there were 1.246.231 tests.

The joint work of the laboratories with the Institute reinforces the importance of epidemiological surveillance, and the increase in positivity for covid-19 serves as a warning: the SARS-CoV-2 virus continues to circulate and the population must be up to date with vaccinations. Children and adolescents up to 18 years of age must take three doses of the vaccine and adults and the elderly, four. If in doubt, look for a health center.

The laboratories also perform panel tests that detect another set of broad-spectrum viruses (Rhinovirus, Enterovirus, Metapneumovirus, Parainfluenza Virus, Bocavirus, Seasonal Coronavirus and Adenovirus) and bacteria such as Bordetella, Mycoplasma and Chlamydophila. In this panel, in the same period, positivity for Rhinovirus was 28%, for Adenovirus, 6%. For other pathogens it is below 5%.

ITpS has been monitoring the circulation of respiratory viruses since February 2022 – this is the 23rd report. In recent months, ITpS has improved monitoring, including new partners, which increased geographic coverage and the sample volume of analyzed tests, and transforming static graphics into interactive ones, in order to increase the accessibility of the information produced.
