Brazilian embassy in Kiev issues warning after Russian bombings

The Brazilian embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, released this Monday (10) a note in which it recommends Brazilians who are in that country to remain “in a protected location while the air threat alerts last”. The warning was motivated by the increase in bombings in several Ukrainian cities, as well as the possibility of new attacks.

Disagreements between Russian and Ukrainian authorities have intensified after the explosion, on the 8th, of a road and railway bridge that connects Russia and Crimea, territory that was annexed by the Russians in 2014. Since then, the peninsula has been used as a base for the fleet operating in the Black Sea, and as a supply route for Russian military forces operating in southern Ukraine.

“The Brazilian Embassy in Kiev strongly recommends Brazilians in Ukraine to follow the guidance of local authorities and to remain in a protected location while the air threat alerts last. Travel should only begin after the end of the alert, when there are safety conditions”, says the statement.

The Brazilian diplomatic corps suggests that its citizens in an emergency situation in Ukraine contact the on-call number +380 50 384 5484. “The embassy reiterates its recommendation that all trips to Ukraine be avoided, as well as staying in the country ”, he added.
