Trump company convicted of tax fraud in New York

Donald Trump's family company was found guilty this Tuesday (6) of fraud and tax evasion by a New York jury. A serious blow for the former president of the United States (USA), who intends to return to the White House in the next elections. This is just one of the legal battles that the Republican faces after leaving the presidency. But this case marks the first time that Trump's company has been criminally charged, tried and convicted.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, in charge of the case, said on Twitter that the Trump Organization was convicted “on all counts.”

“The former president’s companies are now convicted of crimes. This is consequential. This highlights that in Manhattan we have a standard of justice for everyone”, informed Bragg.

In the post, Alvin Bragg states that “for the first time in our lifetime, a jury convicted a former president's company on criminal charges.”

The sequence of posts further states that Trump Corporation and Trump Payroll Corp. are guilty of engaging in a 13-year scheme to defraud and falsify business records,

According to the press release, evidence presented to the jury showed that these two companies perpetrated a sophisticated tax fraud scheme that was run for more than a decade in the Trump Tower offices by the companies' top management agents, Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg and Controller Jeffrey McConney, acting within the scope of his employment and on behalf of the corporations.

Sentencing in this case is scheduled to take place on January 13, 2023.
