American schools close after Brazilian criminal escapes

This Wednesday (6), the United States police increased efforts to find Brazilian criminal Danilo Cavalcante, 34, considered dangerous and who fled last week near Philadelphia, which led to the closure of schools and requests of police surveillance.

Danilo was last seen on Monday night (4) in surveillance footage from a botanical garden – normally open to the public, but closed this Wednesday – in the Kennett Square neighborhood, west of Philadelphia, in the state of Pennsylvania. .

For safety reasons, two school districts in the region decided to close their schools on Tuesday (5). The decision was upheld on Wednesday.

“They are dealing with someone who is desperate and doesn’t want to get caught,” Pennsylvania Police Lt. Col. George Bivens warned on Tuesday.

The Brazilian escaped from Chester County Prison on Thursday, where he was being held after being sentenced to life in prison on August 22 for stabbing an ex-girlfriend to death in April 2021.

The Chester County District Attorney's Office urged residents to lock their doors, watch their cars and other belongings and remain alert as "hundreds of law enforcement officers work tirelessly with helicopters, drones and canine units to locate the fugitive."

The FBI (American Federal Police) and United States customs patrols sent units to reinforce the search.
